Traffic and parking changes will be in place from 4pm Tuesday 31 December 2024 to 2am Wednesday 1 January 2025 in Brisbane CBD, South Brisbane and Kangaroo Point due to the Lord Mayor’s New Years Eve Fireworks display.
The following roads will be closed during this time:
Brisbane City
From 5pm Tuesday 31 December 2024 to 2am Wednesday 1 January 2025:
- North Quay, between Victoria Bridge and Tank Street
- Adelaide Street, between George Street and North Quay
- George Street, between Elizabeth Street and Adelaide Street
- Elizabeth Street, between Riverside Expressway and George Street
- William Street, between Stephens Lane and Queen Street
- Riverside Expressway off-ramps to Elizabeth Street
- George Street entry and egress for Treasury building (access to Treasury carpark maintained via William Street from Margaret Street)
From 7.30pm Tuesday 31 December 2024 to 2am Wednesday 1 January 2025: - Gardens Point Road under traffic control
South Brisbane and Kangaroo Point
From 4pm Tuesday 31 December 2024 to 2am Wednesday 1 January 2025:
- Grey Street, between Peel Street and Melbourne Street, buses excepted
- Grey Street between Melbourne Street and Vulture Street
Grey Street and Melbourne Street intersection under QPS control
o Hope Street, between Peel Street and Melbourne Street
o Melbourne Street, between Cordelia Street and Victoria Bridge, bus access will be maintained, detour in place
o Colchester St, between Ernest Street and Tribune Street
o Tribune Street, between Merivale Street and Grey Street
o Fish Lane, between Merivale Street and Grey Street
o Ernest Street, between Merivale Street and Grey Street
o Little Dock Street, between Dock Street and Stanley Street
o Stanley Street, between Little Dock Street and Sidon Street

The following locations will have changed parking signage in place to assist with the road closures associated with New Year’s Eve. Motorists must refer to signage before parking.

From 4pm Tuesday 31 December 2024 to 2am Wednesday 1 January 2025, there will be changes to access at the following public car parks: - South Bank Parklands car park will be accessible via Glenelg Street for both entry and exit, exit only via Tribune Street towards Vulture Street
- Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre car park will be accessible via Merivale Street only (no access to and from Grey Street)
- Treasury Building George Street entrance will be closed. Access to the Treasury Building Carpark via William Street and Margaret Street
Public transport: - There will be free travel on buses, ferries and trains from 8pm Tuesday 31 December 2024 until 5.30am Wednesday 1 January 2025.
- Buses will operate a normal weekday timetable on New Year’s Eve, with additional services to help people travel in and out of the CBD for the fireworks display.
- CityCats and Ferries will operate as usual, with some changes to frequency. CityCats will run every 15 minutes from 7.30am until about 3am on 1 January 2025.
- Additional train services will run after the family fireworks, between 7.45pm and 9.15pm, and the midnight fireworks, between 12.15am and 1.45am.

Victoria Bridge will not be a viewing point for the fireworks. Queensland Police Service (QPS) will be directing all foot traffic off the bridge and closing to pedestrians during the fireworks displays. Victoria Bridge will be opened and closed to foot traffic at QPS discretion.
Police, traffic controllers and signage will be on site to assist motorists, buses, and pedestrians.
Diversion routes will be in place, with all detours and diversions clearly signed on the day.
