Changed traffic and parking conditions in Brisbane CBD, South Brisbane and Kangaroo Point for New Year’s Eve

Changed traffic and parking conditions will be in place from 11pm Thursday 28 December 2023 to 2am Monday 1 January 2024 for the New Years Eve fireworks at Southbank Parklands.

The following roads will be fully closed:

Brisbane CBD

5pm Sunday 31 December 2023 to 2am Monday 1 January 2024:

  • William Street, between Victoria Bridge and Elizabeth Street
  • North Quay, between Ann Street and Victoria Bridge, buses excepted
  • Victoria Bridge for all motorists
  • Adelaide Street, between George Street and North Quay
  • George Street, between Elizabeth Street and Adelaide Street
  • Elizabeth Street, between Riverside Expressway and George Street
  • William Street, between Stephens Lane and Elizabeth Street.
  • Treasury Casino car park entry/exit will be maintained on George and William Streets
  • Riverside Expressway off-ramps onto Elizabeth Street.

7.30pm Sunday 31 December 2023 to 2am Monday 1 January 2024:

  • Gardens Point Road traffic control implemented

South Brisbane and Kangaroo Point

11pm Thursday 28 December 2023 to 2am Monday 1 January 2024:

  • Little Stanley Street, between Glenelg Street and Tribune Street, local traffic only

6am Sunday 31 December 2023 to 2am Monday 1 January 2024:

  • Russell Street, between Grey Street and South Bank Parklands

9am Sunday 31 December 2023 to 2am Monday 1 January 2024:

  • Ernest Street, between Grey Street and Little Stanley Street

4pm Sunday 31 December 2023 to 2am Monday 1 January 2024:

  • Stanley Street at Victoria Bridge
  • Grey Street, between Peel Street and Melbourne Street, buses excepted
  • Grey Street between Melbourne Street and Vulture Street
  • Grey Street and Melbourne Street intersection under Police control, buses excepted
  • Hope Street, between Peel Street and Melbourne Street, local traffic only
  • Melbourne Street, between Cordelia Street and Grey Street, buses excepted with detour in place for all other travellers
  • Colchester Street, between Ernest Street and Tribune Street
  • Tribune Street, between Merivale Street and Grey Street
  • Fish Lane, between Merivale Street and Grey Street.
  • No access from Fish Lane onto Grey Street.
  • Ernest Street, between Merivale Street and Grey Street, local traffic only
  • Little Dock Street, between Dock Street and Stanley Street
  • Stanley Street, between Little Dock Street and Sidon Street
  • Sidon Street, between Goodwill Bridge and end of Sidon Street
  • Lower River Terrace, between Dock Street and Kangaroo Point cliffs
  • Vulture Street, between Gladstone Road and Grey Street
  • Intersection of Merivale Street and Glenelg Street under Police control

Changed parking conditions

From 4pm Sunday 31 December 2023 until 2am Monday 1 January 2024, changes to parking conditions will be enforceable at several locations during the event. Parking conditions will be signed. Motorists please refer to signage before parking.

Parking conditions will change on the following streets:

  • South Brisbane: Grey Street, Melbourne Street, Colchester Street, Ernest Street, Tribune Street, Merivale Street, Cordelia Street, Little Dock Street, Sidon Street, Vulture Street
  • Kangaroo Point: Leopard Street, Lower River Terrace, Ellis Street, Dock Street
  • Brisbane City: George Street, William Street, Adelaide Street.

From 4pm Sunday 31 December 2023 to 2am Monday 1 January 2024, there will be access changes to the following public car parks:

  • South Bank Parklands car park will be accessible via Glenelg Street for both entry and exit, and exit only via Tribune Street, towards Vulture Street
  • Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre car park will be accessible via Merivale Street only. No access from Grey Street.

Traffic control, signage and diversionswill be in place to assist motorists and pedestrians through the areas.
