Higher than predicted tides expected

Higher than predicted high tides may be experienced in foreshore (low-lying areas near the coast) and riverside locations on Tuesday 7 May 2024 to Friday 10 May 2024.

The Queensland Tide tables provided by the Maritime Safety Queensland advise:

  • A predicted tide peak of 2.60 metres (1.35 m AHD) is expected at the Brisbane Bar at approximately 9:15pm on Tuesday 7 May.
  • A predicted tide peak of 2.66 metres (1.41 m AHD) is expected at the Brisbane Bar at approximately 9.59pm on Wednesday 8 May.
  • A predicted tide peak of 2.67 metres (1.42 m AHD) is expected at the Brisbane Bar at approximately 10:43pm on Thursday 9 May
  • A predicted tide peak of 2.61 metres (1.36 m AHD) is expected at the Brisbane Bar at approximately 11:26pm on Friday 10 May.

Please note that due to current meteorological conditions a tidal anomaly may cause these tide peaks to be higher than predicted.

These high tides are expected to be similar to the high tides experienced in January and February 2024.

Minor localised flooding may be experienced in bayside, riverside, and low-lying parts of nearby suburbs. Areas connected to foreshore, and tide-affected areas of the river, creeks and other waterways may also be affected.

Residents in areas prone to localised flooding due to high tides are advised to avoid parking their cars on the street during these times.

Please note that residents in tidal flood areas who are signed up for Brisbane Severe Weather Alerts can expect to also receive creek flood alerts during higher than predicted high tides.
