Indooroopilly Bikeway - Indooroopilly and St Lucia

Link copied

Council is planning for a potential future bikeway between the Western Freeway Bikeway and UQ.

We are investigating options to extend this connection between Carawa Street, St Lucia and Moggill Road, Indooroopilly.

The 3 parts of the potential future bikeway, which are at various stages of design development, include:

  • Carawa Street to Indooroopilly Riverwalk
  • Indooroopilly Riverwalk to Western Freeway
  • Western Freeway Bikeway to Moggill Road.

We're currently in the planning and design phase, and next steps will be dependent on future allocation of funding. We'll provide an update to the community as the project progresses and more information is available.

The project is jointly funded by Brisbane City Council and the Queensland Government's Cycle Network Local Government Grants Program.

We sought community feedback to help us better understand your travel through the area and any opportunities or challenges you face along your route.

The online survey and pin on a map tool closed Sunday 30 March 2025. Thank you to everyone who shared their active travel experiences between Carawa Street, St Lucia and Moggill Road, Indooroopilly.

Your feedback will be considered alongside technical inputs to help inform any potential improvements to active travel options in this area.

A summary of feedback received from the community is expected to be published on Council’s website in mid-2025.

Lambert Road and Witton Road are part of the Queensland Government’s Principle Cycle Network Plan, which means they are prioritised for future active transport improvements. These streets follow an existing desire line for cyclists and improve connectivity to major destinations such as public transport, schools and urban precincts.

This bikeway would improve accessibility to local shops, parks, recreation facilities and public transport at Indooroopilly and St Lucia.

It would make it easier and safer to travel between the Western Freeway Bikeway and the University of Queensland (UQ). This connection would also provide more active travel opportunities for students and families by improving access to schools in the area, including Ambrose Treacy College, Brigidine College, St Peter’s Lutheran College, Indooroopilly State High School and Ironside State School.

This connection would fill a critical missing link in the broader cycling network by providing a direct and connected route from the CBD to western suburbs and would create a continuous east-west link from the Western Freeway Bikeway through to Woolloongabba and beyond.
