Council social media

Council manages a number of social media channels. You can find us on:

We manage all our social feeds using guidelines to keep our online communities and conversations focused.

These guidelines include rules of conduct and what outline content is and is not permitted. 

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are advised that Council’s social media channels may contain names, images, footage and audio of deceased persons.

Facebook

Council owns and manages the following Facebook pages and their associated groups and events:

Why Council uses Facebook

These Facebook pages exist to provide information on Council initiatives, events, programs, community service announcements and news. They are used as an important tool for Council to actively engage with the community, serving as a place for discussion, enquiries and an active exchange of ideas.

We will respond to service enquiries via Facebook where possible, however may also encourage individuals to phone Council on 07 3403 8888 for more specific enquiries.

When using Facebook to request a Council service for some request types, with your consent, your personal details may be passed on to a contractor or agent who provides a service on Council’s behalf so that we may ensure the delivery of the service.

Operating our Facebook pages

Council’s Facebook pages are maintained by Council’s Social Media, Public Affairs and Contact Centre teams and are governed by the Facebook Terms of Service, Facebook Community Standards and related Facebook policies.

Our Contact Centre monitors the Brisbane City Council, Brisbane Libraries, Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium and What’s on Brisbane pages:

  • Monday to Friday: 6.30am-10.30pm

  • Saturday and Sunday: 7am-10.30pm  

Moderating our Facebook pages

We encourage discussion and the sharing of opinions with others and with Council via Facebook groups and pages.

In order to ensure groups and pages are friendly and welcoming for everyone, we do moderate where needed.

We ask that when contributing your views to Council’s Facebook pages and associated groups and events, you do not:

  • post defamatory comments towards any other individual or business

  • harass, abuse or threaten any individual, business or Council employee

  • post anything that may offend others, particularly in reference to an individual’s race, age, gender, sexuality, political leaning, religion, employment, or disability

  • use obscene or offensive language

  • post false or misleading information

  • post repeat comments continuously

  • promote anything that may constitute spam, such as commercial interests, solicitations, advertisements or endorsements

  • share private or personal information of yourself or anyone else, including email addresses, phone numbers or home addresses as comments on publicly available posts.

If you don’t adhere to the above, we will moderate, hide and potentially remove your comment. All moderation will be done at Council and the platform’s discretion and can be applied to any post, comment, or interaction that is deemed inappropriate.

We may take the discussion 'offline' or into a private channel if we believe that the content is personal in nature or is affecting the enjoyment of the page for other visitors.

Council’s Instagram accounts exist to provide information on Council initiatives, events, programs and news. It is used as an important tool for Council to actively engage with the community, serving as a place for discussion and an active exchange of ideas.

We will respond to service enquiries via Instagram comments where possible but encourage individuals to phone Council on 07 3403 8888 for more specific information and/or service enquiries.

Instagram direct messages are not monitored, phone Council on 07 3403 8888 for service enquiries.

When using Instagram to request a Council service, for some request types, with your consent, your personal details may be passed on to a contractor or agent who provides a service on Council’s behalf so that we may ensure the delivery of the service.

Council’s Instagram pages are maintained by Council’s Social Media, and Contact Centre teams and governed by the Instagram Community Guidelines, Instagram Terms of Use and related Instagram policies.

Council’s TikTok page is maintained by Council’s Social Media team and governed by the TikTok Community Guidelines and related TikTok policies.
