Updates to Council services due to ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred
[UPDATED] Council services and facilities will have changed operations due to the impacts of ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
Brisbane Business Hub
- The Brisbane Business Hub (Level 4, Queen Street, Brisbane City) reopened on Tuesday 11 March.
Cemeteries
- All cemeteries are open.
City Hall
- City Hall reopened to the public from Tuesday 11 March with performances, events, and tours resuming.
- Museum of Brisbane reopened on Tuesday 11 March.
Community halls
- Most community halls reopened. The following halls remain closed:
- Sunnybank Synthetic Sports Field
Community services
- A number of creative and cultural programs were impacted due to the effects of TC Alfred, for up to date information, visit the what’s on page.
- Council's Environment Centres opened Thursday 13 March. The surrounds are still impacted from tree debris, so we urge caution when visiting these spaces. For resident’s safety, please remain vigilant while at the centre surrounds and on all walking tracks.
Customer Service Centres
- The following Council customer service centres reopened on Tuesday 11 March at normal operating hours:
- Brisbane Square
- Carindale
- Indooroopilly
- North Regional Business Centre.
- The South Regional Business Centre reopened Thursday 13 March.
Golf courses
- All golf courses are now open.
Libraries and library services
- Wynnum Library will reopen on Monday 7 April.
- All currently available holds at Wynnum Library will remain extended until Saturday 12 April.
- All loans borrowed from Wynnum Library that were due back during the temporary closure have been extended to Saturday 12 April.
- All other Brisbane libraries, including City Archives, are open per their usual opening hours.
- The Pop-up Library stop at Pallara Park remains cancelled until further notice. The remaining Pop-up Library park visits are operational, based on weather and ground conditions per usual.
King George Square and Wickham Terrace Car Park
- Reopened for usual business trading hours from Monday 10 March.
Parks and reserves
- All mountain bike tracks in the Gap Creek network, Mt Coot-tha Reserve, are now open.
Playgrounds
- All water play sites have now reopened.
Pools
- All pools are now open.
Sandbag stations
- All Council sandbag stations are closed.
Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium
- Reopened on Tuesday 11 March.
Transport
- The Story Bridge footpaths are closed until further notice.
- Brisbane City Council bus services are operating on their regular timetable.
- Council CityCat and Kittycat services are operating on their regular timetable.
- Council Cabs resumed from Tuesday 11 March.
- Personalised Public Transport services resumed on Monday 10 March.
Waste
- Council’s kerbside large item collection service recommenced on Monday 24 March 2025. Residents can visit the calendar to check the commencement date for their service week.
- Chandler, Nudgee, Willawong and Ferny Grove resource recovery centres are open from 6.30am to 5.45pm daily.
- All temporary food waste bin sites have closed.
- Regular collection of all bins, including general waste (red lids), recycling (yellow lids) and green waste recycling (green lids) recommenced from Monday 10 March.
- Residents should present their bins to the kerb as per their usual day of service, for all bin types.
- Bin repair and general maintenance services have resumed and can be logged as normal.
- Council has closed its 7 temporary green waste drop off sites.
Residents are encouraged to take caution around or under trees, as saturated ground conditions may cause trees to become unstable and fall, even after severe weather has cleared.
It is also important to keep clear of damaged buildings, trees, floodwaters, fallen power lines and report them to Energex on 13 19 62.
