Council's Climate Action

Local governments are part of the climate solution and have an important role to play.

Brisbane City Council is taking real and practical action to deliver a low-carbon and climate-resilient city for current and future residents of Brisbane.

Council is actively responding to a changing climate by:

  • continuously improving the performance of our own operations and investing in measures to directly reduce our operational carbon footprint by at least 30% by 2031-32 and achieve net zero emissions by 2050
  • delivering initiatives to support Brisbane residents and businesses to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions
  • assessing climate risks and implementing locally appropriate adaptation measures to build the city’s resilience.
