Council invests in direct carbon emission reductions in line with our operational targets. Since 2024-25, 100% of the investment in emission reduction is spent locally in Brisbane and provides direct benefit to residents.
Low carbon
Brisbane City Council is taking real and practical action to lower our carbon footprint and has set targets to reduce our operational carbon emissions by at least 30% by 2031-32 and achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
Council is also supporting Brisbane residents and businesses to reduce their carbon emissions and has a target to reduce average household emissions from energy, transport and waste to 6 tonnes by 2031.
