Stormwater harvesting
Stormwater harvesting is the collection of rainwater that flows from a variety of surfaces such as:
- car parks and roads
- gardens and open space
- footpaths
This stormwater is stored, treated and used as an alternative to town water supply for various purposes including:
- garden, sports fields and parks irrigation
- toilet flushing
Stormwater harvesting benefits our waterways by re-establishing a more natural water cycle and reducing the amount of pollutants entering our waterways.

Norman Creek stormwater harvesting project
Council will construct water storage basins, in-channel storage systems and above-ground tanks to supply filtered stormwater to seven local parks and recreational facilities to be used for irrigation purposes. These schemes will be progressively built, with all to be completed by April 2016. Find out more information.
Stormwater quality management
The planning, design and implementation of stormwater drainage must integrate that two distinct components of stormwater management, i.e. water quantity and water quality.
Find out how new developments must comply with the stormwater quality management guidelines in the Brisbane City Plan 2014.
