Housing Support Program

Brisbane City Council's Housing Support Program provides funding to community organisations for projects or services that respond to the housing and social needs of homeless people, or those living in social housing.

This grant program has been made possible through financial contributions made by Mirvac to support responses to affordable housing provision and tenants living in affordable housing.

Purpose

The Housing Support Program aims to:

  • enhance support services offered to homeless people and people living in social housing, including support to sustain tenancies. This includes services which focus on empowerment, life skills, employability and opportunities for social inclusion
  • provide resources and equipment for projects and programs that meet the needs of homeless people and people living in social housing
  • provide packages to support individuals transitioning into social and affordable housing.

Funding is available to develop and improve programs and facilities for homeless people and those in social housing in the inner north of Brisbane, including:

  • Bowen Hills
  • Fortitude Valley
  • New Farm
  • Newstead
  • Spring Hill
  • Teneriffe.

Funding available 

Funding amounts range from $2000 to $10,000.

Funding round dates

Applications for this grant open on Monday 10 February 2025 and close at midnight on Monday 24 March 2025.

Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by late May 2025.

Eligibility

An applicant should be an incorporated not-for-profit organisation.

An unincorporated not-for-profit organisation may also apply, under the auspices of an incorporated not-for-profit organisation able to accept legal and financial responsibility for the applicant’s project.

Applicants must not have any overdue Council grant acquittals or outstanding debts with Council.

The following Housing Support projects were approved in 2023-24. Four organisations received funding for a total amount of $21,340.00.

The mobile support team from HART4000 (Communify) will provide ongoing tenancy sustainment support and outreach to the household, ensuring the longevity and success of new tenancies.$9,089.60
Brisbane Housing Company LimitedThe project will provide barista training to vulnerable boarding room and community housing residents who currently have limited access to employment, training and participation opportunities in the community. The project will focus strongly on nurturing hospitality and customer service soft skills.$4,800.00
Village ChurchThe project will provide a weekly pop in cafe that will focus on connection, empowerment, life skills, employability and social inclusion.$4,000.00

Communify Queensland LtdThe project will provide household items and furnishings to vulnerable individuals who are transitioning from homelessness into social and affordable housing, using an online voucher system ('Prezee'). The mobile support team from HART4000 (Communify) will have oversight of the spending, therefore allowing them to intervene and assist people if required. It is anticipated the online voucher system will empower individuals by enabling autonomy and choice, which aligns with HART4000's trauma-informed and empowering framework.$9,000.00
4 Voices Global LimitedThe project will assist vulnerable people with becoming more digitally connected by providing them with free mobile phones and SIM cards. 4 Voices will distribute the phones and SIM cards via their dedicated outreach services at four (4) various inner-city locations.$4,800.00
The Trustee for The Salvation Army (QLD) Property TrustThe project will provide 27 facilitated workshops for vulnerable women focusing on connection, skills building, education, employment and community participation.$4,700.00

2021-22 recipients

Zig Zag Young Women's Resource Centre Inc.The project will deliver measurable outcomes for a minimum of 20 young women (and their accompanying children), who are experiencing homelessness and/or at risk of homelessness.  The project will provide direct brokerage support in areas not covered under other Zig Zag funding agreements. Zig Zag will be able to support young women with the purchase of items that can include whitegoods, small household items, linen, groceries, bond, and initial utilities set-up. This project will compliment the current wrap-around services provided by Zig Zag, with the aim of achieving long-term positive outcomes, including tenancy sustainment for young women.$10,000.00

Acquittal reports for successful applicants

If your application is successful, you will be required to complete your project and submit an online acquittal form within 12 months of the grant approval notification.

Grant recipients with overdue acquittal reports are not eligible for further grants.
