Construction is underway for the Mitchelton Youth Club structural repairs at Mitchelton.

Project summary

About the project

We are undertaking structural repair works at Mitchelton Youth Club, 20 Tel El Kebir Street, Mitchelton.

The Mitchelton Youth Club has been operating since 1941. This project will improve the longevity of the venue for the community and ensure it remains safe and available for the benefit of all users.

The project will be delivered across 2 packages to minimise disruption for the club and its users. The project features included as part of this project are outlined below.

As part of Package 1, we will:

• complete restumping of the club building
• construct new accessible pathways to the main entrance and around the building
• install new retaining walls
• improve stormwater drainage. 

As part of Package 2, we will:

• undertake a full roof replacement
• construct a new external staircase
• complete internal structural repairs and undertake general structural improvements to bring areas to necessary facility standards
• create additional storage space 
• undertake minor extension and refurbishment of the ground floor office.

This project is jointly funded by Brisbane City Council and the Queensland State Government as part of the Community and Recreational Assets Recovery and Resilience Program (CRARRP) funding agreement.

Project timing

• Project introduction – late December 2024
• Package 1 – early January 2025 to late February 2025
• Package 2 – mid-April 2025 to late August 2025

Start of construction

Works started in early January and are expected to be completed in mid-2025, weather and site conditions permitting.

Council will provide advance notification of any particularly impactful works required throughout the construction period.

What to expect during construction 

During delivery of Package 1, limited access will be permitted to Mitchelton Youth Club while the restumping works are being completed. 

Council is committed to keeping the local community informed of construction in their area and will provide more information during construction. 

We value your patience and cooperation while navigating operational changes as Council makes the building safer to use.

Site compound

The site compound and laydown area to store materials and machinery is on site, adjacent to the Mitchelton Youth Club.
