Lagoon rehabilitation project - City Botanic Gardens, Brisbane City

Council is planning to rehabilitate Oakman’s Lagoon in the City Botanic Gardens, near the Alice Street entrance.

Oakman's Lagoon in the City Botanic Gardens near the Alice Street entrance will be rehabilitated.

Works will include:

  • emptying the pond by gradually pumping out and recycling water over the park, vegetation and lawns
  • desilting the lagoon
  • inspecting and repairing cracks
  • trimming invasive tree roots
  • installing a new sand bed and pond liners
  • repairing and reinstalling the aeration and fountain system
  • refilling the lagoon with water. 

Prior to construction and during works, a fauna spotter and catcher will be present to spot, catch and relocate aquatic life.

  • Late January 2025: Preparation works.
  • Late April 2025: Start of construction.
  • Mid-July 2025: Project completion.
