About the project

Situated in the south-west of Brisbane, Sherwood Arboretum is Brisbane’s only Arboretum and is part of the Brisbane Botanic Gardens collection.

Council is undertaking a series of upgrades at the Sherwood Arboretum in the lead up to the Arboretum’s Centenary in March 2025. As such, Council is focusing on improving the park and its existing assets for an enhanced visitor experience.

The Sherwood Arboretum nature-inspired play space has created more to see and do in a clean and green Brisbane and provides more opportunities to enjoy Brisbane's beautiful climate and connect with family and friends in the places that make our city great.

Project details

Council has delivered a new nature-inspired play space located at the northern playground under the fig trees.

The upgrade of the existing playground focused on enhancing and enriching the play space environment, and these upgrades included:

  • removing and replacing the existing decking
  • upgrading existing and installing new playground equipment and furniture
  • upgrading the existing access pathway and installing a second pathway
  • enhancing the botanical theme with new sensory and interactive play features.

The upgraded playground provides a Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA) compliant pathway access to the playground and provides additional accessible connections within the current layout.
