About the project

The upgrade included installing 2 new pedestrian refuges on Nellie Street, at both approaches to Melton Road to improve safety and enhance connectivity at this busy intersection.

The no stopping lines on all approaches to the intersection have been extended to improve sightlines. This safety upgrade forms part of Brisbane City Council’s plans to make Brisbane roads safer.

This project will now enter a maintenance period where, if required, any minor defects will be corrected.

The project is funded by the Australian Government as part of the 2024-25 Black Spot Program.

Project details

Below is a summary of the works undertaken as part of the project.

  • Installed two new pedestrian refuges on both sides of Nellie Street at the intersection with Melton Road to provide safe crossing points.
  • Realigned the kerb, constructed new pram ramps and sections of footpath on all four corners of the intersection.
  • Extended the no stopping lines and removed some informal on street parking spaces to improve sight lines for road users.
  • Installed additional stop signs on both sides of Nellie Street.
  • Installed new landscaping and line marking.
