About lost property
Lost and found items are retained for a period of time, based on the perceived value of the item.

Low-value or perishable items | Food | Not retained |
Items valued at less than $100, with no perceived sentimental value | Footwear, clothing and umbrellas | One month |
Items with sentimental value | Photographs, religious items and autographed items | 2 months |
Items valued at $100 or more | Laptops, mobile phones, wallets or handbags | 2 months |
Branded school items | Uniforms and bags | 8 weeks, and the school will be contacted by Council |

How to claim lost property from buses and bus stops
We offer a lost property service for items left on Council buses and at bus stops.
Follow these steps if you have left an item on a bus or at a bus stop.
Call us on 07 3403 8888 to see if the item has been handed in to lost property.
Arrange a time to collect your item from the Central Customer Centre, located within Brisbane Square Library, 266 George Street, Brisbane Qld 4000.
Bring personal identification and proof of ownership if required.
You can authorise someone else to collect your item for you. They’ll need to bring:
- their own ID
- copies of your ID and/or proof of ownership
- a letter, email or image on a digital device that says you authorise us to release the item to them.
How to claim lost property from CityCats, ferries and terminals
Council’s CityCat and ferry services are operated by RiverCity Ferries.
If you have left an item on a Council CityCat, ferry, or terminal, please complete the online form and RiverCity Ferries will be in contact.
