With a history dating back to the dinosaurs, palm species can be climbers, shrubs, stemless plants and trees. They are exploited for food, alcohol production, industrial products, shelter, horticulture and decoration. Worldwide, they feature in faith and symbolism. And they can be considered Olympians in the plant world. Think palms and tropical beaches? Think again! Guided walks are led by City Botanic Gardens volunteer guides. Requirements: This walk includes moderate physical activity, including walking slightly longer distances, up gentle slopes and stairs or walking on some uneven surfaces. Some standing periods for guide explanations but no sitting. Please wear a hat, enclosed walking shoes, and be sure to bring a water bottle and sunscreen. Meeting point: Meet at the Visitor Information Kiosk (next to the Queensland University of Technology's Main Drive pathway).
