Reasons to choose Brisbane City Council

Diversity is what makes Brisbane great, and our people are as diverse as the communities they serve.

We don’t tolerate discrimination in any form.

At Council we've worked hard to foster a culture where diversity is valued, inclusion is intrinsic and where people feel they can bring their whole selves to work, regardless of their background, ability or circumstance.

This is cemented in our culture through our Inclusion Blueprint and Communities of Inclusion (COI).

Recognising those with lived experience as experts, COI members are provided with paid work time to progress inclusion across the organisation. Our current COIs include:

  • BrisAbility supports Council employees to build disability confidence, find solutions to barriers and celebrate good practice.

  • Multicultural Connect represents our culturally and linguistically diverse employees. It promotes initiatives for connectedness, builds relationships and reflects diverse perspectives.

  • One Mob is committed to truth-telling and celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their cultures through advice, information and education.

  • River City Pride represents our LGBTIQ+ employees by supporting the diversity of sexuality and gender identity to make sure no-one experiences fear or discrimination in the workplace.

  • BrisWomen Alliance supports women in leadership and other under-represented paths, such as trades.

  • Council strives for zero harm (mentally and physically) to everyone in the workplace, at home or in public spaces through our 'Zero Harm' policy.

  • We have zero tolerance for any unwelcome or harassing behaviour of a sexual, discriminatory or offensive nature.
