Locating graves and memorials

The practice of marking numbers on gravestones was not introduced until the late 1900s.

As most graves at South Brisbane Cemetery are quite old, the majority of headstones do not have numbers marked on them. This makes finding graves at the location extremely difficult without assistance.

Carry out a location search to help you find a grave or memorial. Have the person’s first or surname, age and date of birth and/or death on hand.

The area map may also help locate a site. The map shows the cemetery’s portions. Each portion can hold hundreds of graves.

To request a portion map, email Council.
