Hanging banners is an effective way to promote an event or raise awareness of your campaign.

You can hang a banner at various highly visible locations across Brisbane, including bridges and overpasses.

Before you get your design ready, check if you’re eligible to apply.  

Bridge banner bookings

You need to make a booking to hang a banner on a Council bridge or overpass. 

Bookings are available to advertise significant city, state or national awareness campaigns, public events or similar promotions. 

You can apply to hang a banner if you’re a charitable or not-for-profit organisation, or a commercial entity.

Bridge banner locations

You can hang a banner from bridges and overpasses at:

  • Bedivere Street, Carindale
  • Caxton Street, Brisbane
  • Hale Street, Brisbane
  • Mains Road, Sunnybank (inbound and outbound)
  • Rokeby Terrace, Taringa
  • Story Bridge Kangaroo Point (inbound and outbound)
  • Turbot Street, Brisbane.

Eligibility and booking conditions

Bookings to hang a banner can be made by eligible charitable or not-for-profit organisations, and commercial entities. Banners must support a major community event or awareness campaign.

To qualify as a not-for-profit organisation, you must either:

If you provide or support welfare or community services, but are not on the Schedule of Fees and Charges list, you can apply for the not-for-profit concession by:

  • supplying a Registered Charity Certificate from the Queensland Government Office of Fair Trading or Australian Charities and Not-For Profits Commission (ACNC) Certificate
  • selecting ‘yes’ to be considered for reduced fees when completing the application form. 

Conditions 

Banner applications must meet the following conditions.

Design specifications 

To help with your banner design, refer to the following specifications.

  • Third-party logos or names must be approved prior to use. Third-party commercial names and logos may not be approved.
  • Lettering on banners should have a minimum height of 300 millimetres.
  • Eyelets are required to be placed at 1 metre intervals along the top and bottom of banner, for the ropes to be attached through.
  • Ropes must be attached to the banner. They must be 1.2 metres long, looped through the eyelets and joined with a ferrule at the banner end.
  • The loose end of the ropes must also have a ferrule attached. 
  • Wind holes (vents) need to be spaced at approximately 3-metre intervals.

What you need to know

  • Awareness campaign banners for commercial purposes are not subject to not-for-profit fees even if the organisation is listed in the Schedule of Fees and Charges or classified as a not-for-profit.
  • Fees quoted are for 1 banner only, except for the not-for-profit package.

Application process

Applications must be submitted by the registered charity, organisation or not-for-profit group associated with the booking request.

Note

The layout and design of the banner must be submitted for approval. It can be attached with your application or supplied at least 2 weeks before the start of the approved display date. 

2 Submit your application

Complete the online form to apply.

3 After you apply

Once we receive your application we will:

  • email you within 2 business days to acknowledge your application
  • review your application to make sure it meets the eligibility and booking conditions
  • contact you if the dates you requested aren’t available. 

The process will usually be completed within 7 working days. You’ll receive an invoice once your booking is confirmed.
