About asset light ups 

Do you represent a charity or organisation with an important message? You can apply to light up a Council asset with vibrant colours that reflect your campaign or event.

There are several locations around the city that can be used to promote significant local, state or national events or campaigns.

The buildings, bridges and sculptures are an important part of the city’s rich history and unique identity. 

Make sure you choose the ideal asset, read the conditions and understand the fees.

Light up locations 

The buildings, bridges and sculptures are in prime locations, such as the Brisbane CBD and Kangaroo Point.

These assets include:

  • Story Bridge
  • Victoria Bridge
  • Kangaroo Point Bridge
  • Brisbane City Hall and King George Square
  • Reddacliff Place sculptures: Steam (2006) by Donna Marcus.

Note

Complimentary sites, such as the Breakfast Creek Bridge and Yowoggera Bridge, Newstead are only available to successful bookings for the Story Bridge and Victoria Bridge. These assets can’t be selected as stand-alone locations.

Story Bridge 

Illuminate the famous bridge to shed light on your event or awareness campaign.

Complimentary assets are included with approved bookings of the Story Bridge. They’re available for lighting to eligible applicants.

The assets include:

  • Breakfast Creek Bridge
  • Yowoggera Bridge
  • Wickham Terrace Car Park architectural wall.

Council will select the colour to complement the bridge.

Victoria Bridge 

Connecting South Bank to the CBD, Victoria Bridge provides an ideal central location to elevate your message. 

Kangaroo Point Bridge

Light up Brisbane’s skyline and promote a range of causes or campaigns with the Kangaroo Point Bridge.

Brisbane City Hall and King George Square

Brighten up these historic venues for significant city, state or national events, or to promote events taking place in the 2 locations.

Bring the metal art sculptures in Reddacliff Place to life.

Eligibility  

To light up a Council asset, the event or campaign must meet at least one of the following criteria:

have a Brisbane-wide audience
benefit all Brisbane residents
attract 10,000 participants
is a national event represented in multiple states.

When applying, your charity or organisation must also meet certain conditions and requirements.

Fees 

You don’t need to pay a fee if you meet the eligibility criteria.

Fees may apply to:

  • late colour changes
  • complex light programming requests
  • other situations where Council needs assistance from external agencies to carry out your lighting request.

Application process

Before you apply

  1. Choose a Council asset.
  2. Check your eligibility and read the booking conditions.
  3. Prepare the following information:
    • campaign or event purpose information
    • business information (ABN, trading name, etc.)
    • your chosen light-up dates, asset and colours. You can choose your light colour/s and sequencing from set colours on the online form.

Council may change light up colours without notice.

Apply

Complete the online form to light up a bridge or the Reddacliff Place sculptures.

You must apply at least 31 days before your campaign or event begins.

You can also apply to light up Brisbane City Hall or King George Square.

After you apply

We’ll let you know we received your application within 2 working days.

If your lighting request incurs any external costs, Council will send you an invoice. You must pay these fees at least 2 weeks before your booking begins.
