About the project

Brisbane residents will be able to enjoy playgrounds across the city for longer each day, all year-round.

More shade at playgrounds will allow the community to use playgrounds more often, especially during summer, by cooling playground areas and equipment as well as reducing sun and UV radiation exposure.

Increased shade will reduce sun and weather exposure, which may improve the life of the playground equipment.

Works will include intermittent temporary closures of playground equipment to:

  • install poles and frames
  • measure and install shade sails.

The shade sails will be measured once supporting infrastructure is installed and will take between three to five weeks to install depending on the size and site conditions of each playground.

Construction impacts

Construction activities will generally be undertaken between 6.30am and 6.30pm, Monday to Saturday. It is expected works will take three to five weeks to complete on-site.

During construction, playground equipment will be fenced off and closed. Safe use of other park facilities will be maintained during construction. Please note that playgrounds will not be required to be closed for the full three-to-five week period, but will be closed intermittently to complete works and will be reopened when safe to do so.

There will be minor construction noise and increased movement within park and playground facilities.

Signage will be installed around the worksites for safe pedestrian access and use during the construction period.

Every effort will be made to minimise disruption to the local community.
