Our parks encourage outdoor get-togethers, being in nature, recreation, and support active and healthy lifestyles.

Sport and recreation

Council parks offer a range of sporting and leisure facilities. Take advantage of these free facilities to boost your fitness, try a new hobby or just have fun with friends and family.

Launching drones in parks

Several parks include designated areas to launch and land drones and other Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) recreationally.

When operating a drone:

  • follow the drone safety rules
  • check if you need Council permission.

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) regulates the flying of drones and other RPA to help protect the public.

Do I need permission? 

Before you launch or land a drone in a park, check if you need permission from Council.

Restricted and prohibited activities

Some activities are restricted and prohibited in Council parks and bushland reserves.

To protect public safety, park facilities, the environment and neighbouring properties, the following activities are not allowed:

  • motorbike or trail bike riding
  • four-wheel driving
  • playing golf, other than at a designated golf facility or with a whiffle ball
  • off-road cycling on high-powered motorised bikes in natural areas.

Restricted activities are allowed without Council permission in designated areas or facilities, and may be allowed in other park areas with Council permission. Examples include: 

  • horse riding
  • walking dogs off leash
  • riding bicycles, scooters and skateboards
  • bushwalking, trail running and orienteering
  • launching canoes and kayaks
  • recreational fishing in any water body.
