About the project

As Mackenzie and surrounding areas continue to grow, it is important to ensure that our parks continue to meet the recreational needs of residents. Council has received input from the community on how they use Mount Petrie Road Park, what they like most about it and how Council can enhance the connectivity and amenity of the park.

Using this community feedback and initial investigations, Council developed a vision for Mount Petrie Road Park with delivery subject to technical investigations and future funding.

The plan includes additional features that can enhance the connectivity and amenity of the park to ensure the park caters to the needs of the wider community, and includes the following new features:

  • formalised walking track
  • park seating
  • picnic facilities
  • formalised areas to view the water body
  • nature-themed sculptural elements.

Some of the damage caused to the park in the severe weather and flooding event in February 2022 has not yet been repaired. Council will schedule necessary repairs as soon as possible and then work with existing stakeholders to ensure the park can continue to be used and enjoyed as it is currently and continue to maintain Lake Mackenzie and the park regularly as part of Council’s standard maintenance schedule. Council will also work with existing stakeholders to ensure the park can continue to be used and enjoyed as it is.

Community consultation

Council would like to thank the community for their feedback on how they use Mount Petrie Road Park and the features they would like to see through the online survey and information kiosk at the park in late 2021.

Council is not undertaking further consultation on the Mount Petrie Road Park opportunities plan at this time.
