Murarrie Recreation Reserve sport and recreation planning
Brisbane City Council has finalised the concept plan for upgrades to Murarrie Recreation Reserve. This project aims to establish the reserve as a premier destination for international cycling and wheeled precinct, the Murarrie Recreation Reserve – Brisbane International Cycle Park.
Background
Located at 1238 Wynnum Road, the Murarrie reserve is home to existing facilities such as a 1.4 kilometre cycling track and small clubhouse, a skate park and basketball half-court, and a shared footpath and cycling track with links to Wynnum Road and the Bulimba Creek Bikeway.
From 2019 to early 2021, Council conducted community consultation on a draft master plan for the Murarrie Recreation Reserve. Following extensive community and targeted engagement including the Balmoral Cycling Club and Queensland Cycling, Council developed the final concept plan for the Murarrie Recreation Reserve.
The final concept plan was released to the public in late 2021 and outlines the proposed phases of the overarching Murarrie Recreation Reserve project. The current scope for the Brisbane International Cycle Park project was identified in this concept plan, along with future opportunities.
In May 2020, following early community feedback, Council began early works on the Vicki Wilson Playground in the Murarrie Recreation Reserve. The project delivered a new and improved playground, seating area, and a resurfaced car park to the northern part of the reserve.
In late June 2022, Council lodged a Development Application for material change of use for the Brisbane International Cycle Park project which was approved in late 2022.
Current stage
Council proposes to deliver the upgrades in stages:
