About the project

The project delivered a new 260m pump track with skateable elements and creates a new destination for Brisbane families. The pump track offers a space for beginner to intermediate riders, to practice and expand on their riding skills, creating the perfect day out for the whole family.

The urban pump track is located in the north-west corner of the park, along Herston Road.

The urban pump track includes:

  • a riding track
  • additional small multi-use space with skateable elements
  • new amenities block with PWD toilet
  • picnic shelter and seating
  • bike racks
  • new entry/exit driveway with a 16-space car park
  • connecting footpaths
  • bioretention basins for flood mitigation
  • turfing, landscaping, lighting and tree planting.

Walking routes

Council prioritises convenient and safe walking routes in parks, and we work diligently to ensure disruptions to the community are minimised on all of our projects as much as possible.

With the urban pump track now complete, the recommended route to the Kelvin Grove Urban Village through Victoria Park will be the footpaths connecting to the QUT Kelvin Grove busway, passing by the Victoria Park function centre and bistro. This new pathway offers a flatter and shadier option that is only slightly longer than the previous route. Future plans involve connecting this pathway with the 2km Parkway Loop. The bridge over the busway, previously used as a golf buggy bridge, will remain closed following the opening of the pump track due to non-compliance with disability standards.

In addition, a new swale and bioretention basin has been constructed where the previous footpath was located. This new swale and bioretention basin will play a vital role in managing overland flow flooding in this area.
