Reducing congestion
Brisbane City Council takes a balanced approach with ongoing investment across all transport modes, and relieves traffic congestion through road, bikeway and shared pathway upgrades, investment in public and active transport and by adopting and encouraging use of new technologies.
Council's commitment
Council is committed to reducing congestion and improving safety and access across the city through a network-wide focus on traffic improvements to meet current and future traffic volumes along Brisbane’s road network corridors.
Council is committing $1.3 billion on 90 road improvement projects from 2016 to 2020 to tackle congestion in Brisbane, by focusing on a range of solutions to improve the existing road network.
Traffic congestion increases the cost of goods and services, while reducing amenity and convenience.
Council recognises the need to maintain Brisbane as a well-connected city and to do this we must provide an effective transport network that delivers economic, social and environmental benefits.
Investment in infrastructure is absolutely critical to support population growth, enable economic growth, and make sure Brisbane is a liveable city where people and business want to live, work and invest.
