Types of bicycle parking

Bike racks

There are more than 200 bike racks installed around Brisbane.

Use the interactive map to find bicycle parking locations. These can also be used to park e-mobility devices, such as e-scooters or e-bikes.

 If you have a suggestion for a new bike rack location, you can submit a bike parking request.

Did you know? 

You can park your bike at a Council library. Each library building has bike racks nearby. 

Bike shelters

You can store your bike or e-mobility device securely in one of Council’s bike shelters, provided you have a Council bike shelter access card.

You’ll find bike shelters at the following locations.

  • Westfield Chermside - next to the bus interchange on the corner of Gympie and Hamilton Roads.
  • Westfield Garden City - next to the Garden City busway station and opposite the David Jones car park.
  • Westfield Carindale - Carindale Street, near the corner of Banchory Court, opposite Westfield Carindale bus interchange.
  • Mt Ommaney Centre - next to the bus interchange and opposite the Mt Ommaney Library.

Cyclepods  

Cyclepods provide sheltered and secure bike parking for up to 8 bicycles.  

You can park your bike at a Cyclepod at:

  • Hawthorne CityCat terminal
  • Guyatt Park CityCat terminal
  • Aspley Hypermarket bus interchange
  • Cannon Hill Kmart Plaza bus interchange
  • Centro Toombul bus interchange.

Get a bike shelter access card

You need an access card to use a Council bike shleter.

Access cards are available to people 18 years old and over. A parent or guardian can apply for an access card for a child.

You must pay a refundable deposit of $37.90 when applying for a card. The card is valid for 12 months, from 1 July each year, and must be renewed on an annual basis before 30 June.

1 Complete the application form

Download and complete the Bike Shelter Access Application/Renewal form.

2 Prepare documentation

When applying for a card, you need to present photo identification (e.g. current driver’s licence, passport or student card) and proof of address (e.g. utility bill or bank statement).

3 Submit your application

Take your form and documentation to a Customer Centre.

4 Pay the deposit

You can pay the $37.90 refundable deposit via cash, EFTPOS or credit card.

Renew a card

To renew your bike shelter access card, download and complete the Bike Shelter Access Application/Renewal form.

You can lodge your application by email.

Cycle2City parking and change facilities 

Council and the Department of Transport and Main Roads have jointly funded the construction of the King George Square Cycle Centre.

The centre is now known as Cycle2City and is part of King George Square station. 

To use and access Cycle2City, you need to be a member. Membership provides you with access to:     

  • secure lockers
  • excellent security for your bike, including CCTV monitoring and electronic pass card access
  • 420 individual bike racks
  • ironing and laundry service
  • male and female change rooms with a total of 35 showers
  • cycle access direct to the door via Turbot Street, Roma and Herschel Streets from the Bicentennial Bikeway, or through Roma Street Parklands.

Bike repair stations

If you need to make basic bike repairs, including inflating a tyre, you can use one of Council’s bike repair stations. 

You’ll find repair stations around the CBD:

  • at the end of the Victoria Street cul-de-sac in Riverside Drive Park, West End
  • at the base of the Wheel of Brisbane, South Brisbane
  • behind the River Quay Green lawn area, South Bank.

Frequently asked questions

You can’t take your bike on Brisbane buses unless you have a foldable bike. E-mobility devices, such as e-bikes or e-scooters, are not allowed onboard. 

If there’s space available, you can take your bike or e-mobility device on CityCats and ferries at the master's discretion.

You can take your bike or e-mobility on Brisbane trains at any time - including weekends and public holidays, and off-peak times on weekdays. You can also leave it securely at stations.
