Yes, finding a parking sign confusing isn’t grounds for Council to withdraw a fine. It’s the responsibility of all licensed drivers to remain up to date with parking signs and markings.

Yes, you can dispute a parking fine if you think you have grounds to do so. However, Council is unlikely to withdraw a fine because it’s reasonable to assume that appointments and meetings don’t always run on time. Council offers a variety of parking spaces throughout Brisbane – it's your responsibility to ensure you find parking that allows time to include unexpected delays.

Yes, forgetting to check for a parking sign isn’t grounds for Council to withdraw a fine.

It is illegal to stop in a ‘No stopping’ zone, regardless of the length of time you’re there or even if the driver remains in the vehicle with the engine running. ‘No stopping’ zones help to keep all road users safe. An infringement notice can be issued even if stopping in a ‘No stopping’ zone did not endanger road users or cause traffic congestion.

You have 28 days from the date of issue to pay a parking fine. If you ignore it, Council will send you a reminder notice giving you another 28 days to take action. You’ll also be charged a registration search fee if a reminder notice is sent.

Unpaid fines are then referred to the State Penalties Enforcement Registry (SPER) for collection. SPER will take enforcement action and charge additional fees.
