Brisbane's Economic Development Plan
In 2012, Brisbane City Council launched Brisbane’s Economic Development Plan 2031 to ensure Brisbane is prepared for future growth in the city’s economy and infrastructure. The plan won the 2012 Strategic Planning Regional Category of the Economic Development Australia Awards.
Council continues to work together with its Economic Development Board, Brisbane Economic Development Agency, to deliver on this award-winning plan to strengthen Brisbane’s economy to secure long term success and economic prosperity.

What we're doing
- Asia-Pacific Cities Summit and Mayor’s Forum held biennially to encourage connection and collaboration with key influencers of cities.
- Enhancing Brisbane's reputation as the destination of choice for business conferences through the Lord Mayor's Convention Trailblazer Grant.
- Promoting longer visitation through the MoreTix initiative, by directing ticketholders to other relevant events and activities at the time of ticket purchase.
- Released Brisbane's Inner City Strategy to plan precincts and infrastructure that will support our future growth.

What we're doing
- Helping businesses in suburban retail strips come together to promote and enhance the customer appeal of their area under the Growing Precincts Together program.
- Suburban Business Hub in Nundah provides workshops, networking and co-working space for Brisbane businesses.
- Council as a purchaser is committed to buying more from local businesses.
- Better Brisbane Proposals allow businesses with innovative ideas that help solve a problem for the city or work toward our Brisbane Vision, to approach Council directly, rather than waiting for a tender.

What we're doing
- Expanding opportunities for domestic students with multicultural backgrounds and international students from our Sister Cities through the International Internship Program.
- Working with local and international agencies and organisations to leverage our Sister City relationships with Brisbane Sister Cities.
- Supporting the advancement and opportunities for multicultural business in Brisbane through the Lord Mayor's Multicultural Round Table.

- River Access Network increasing commercial, recreation and tourism opportunities focusing on the Brisbane River.
- Brisbane Greeters program offers free orientation tours to tourists and visitors, available in over 13 languages.
- Outdoor Gallery transforming Brisbane’s laneways and city streets into engaging spaces.

- Brisbane Business Hotline established in 2012 to provide a dedicated 24 hour a day, seven day a week phone channel to support business in Brisbane
- Lord Mayor’s Business Awards recognising leadership and showcasing the achievements of business in Brisbane
- Business in Brisbane Facebook group provides information and support for small businesses and entrepreneurial residents to help grow their business.
