1 Check your eligibility

You can stop at a commercial vehicle loading zone without a permit if you’re:

  • a taxi or limousine dropping off or picking up passengers (2-minute limit) 

  • a commercial vehicle loading or unloading goods (20-minute limit).

What is a commercial vehicle?
A commercial vehicle is one constructed, fitted or equipped for carrying goods (e.g. a ute, including dual cab, or truck). A passenger vehicle is considered a commercial vehicle if it has no back seats or seat belts.

You need a permit to stop at a commercial vehicle loading zone for:

  • a passenger-only vehicle
  • a taxi or limousine waiting for passengers 
  • other vehicles not listed above.

You can apply for:

  • an annual permit (valid for 12 months)
  • a fixed-term permit (valid for a minimum of 7 days and a maximum of 364 days). 
2 Prepare your information

To apply for a commercial vehicle parking permit, you will need to supply:

  • personal information, including driver’s licence details 
  • vehicle details, including the make and registration number
  • permit start date.

You can also estimate your fees before you apply.

3 Submit your application

Complete the application form to apply for a new or replacement permit online.

You must pay the permit fee with Visa or Mastercard.

You can also download a permit application to complete and submit:

  • in person at a Council Customer Centre
  • by mail with a cheque for the fee to:
    Brisbane City Council
    GPO Box 1434
    Brisbane Qld 4001.
4 After you apply

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you’ll receive a permit within 10 business days.

You must clearly display the permit on your vehicle’s windscreen when using a commercial vehicle loading zone.

You'll receive a renewal invoice when your permit is due to expire. 

Stay informed about fees

Fees for commercial vehicle parking permits are GST exempt and subject tochange. Check the current fees before applying.
 

Lost or stolen permits

You can apply for a replacement if your permit is lost, stolen or damaged.

1 Submit a permit application

Complete and submit a commercial vehicle permit application. You need to include your current permit number and pay the replacement permit fee.

2 Request an interim permit number

You can use a temporary permit number while your application is being processed. To request an interim permit number, contact Council

Council will provide an interim permit via email. This interim permit must be printed and displayed on the dashboard of the vehicle.

3 Receive a replacement permit

You will receive a replacement permit within 10 business days.

Transfer a permit

You can transfer a commercial vehicle parking permit to a different vehicle under your name.

1 Complete a permit application

Download and complete a copy of the commercial vehicle permit application. Tick the 'transfer' box and check the transfer fee.

2 Return the original permit

You can return the original permit with the application and pay the fee:

  • in person at a Council Customer Centre
  • by mail with a cheque for the fee to:
    Brisbane City Council
    GPO Box 1434
    Brisbane Qld 4001.
3 Receive a new permit

You will receive a new permit within 10 business days.

Surrender a permit

If you no longer need your commercial vehicle parking permit, surrender it to Council.

*Daily rate and new application fee applies to each application for a minimum of 7 days and a maximum of 365 days.

Frequently asked questions

All vehicle types are eligible for a commercial vehicle parking permit if they are:

  • used to load or unload goods
  • passenger-only vehicles stopping to wait for passengers. 

You don’t need a permit to stop at a commercial loading zone for: 

  • a taxi or limousine dropping off or picking up passengers (2-minute limit)
  • a commercial vehicle loading or unloading goods (20-minute limit).
