City Botanic Gardens access changes

August 2024

Connect Brisbane, led by BESIX Watpac, is delivering the Kangaroo Point Bridge on behalf of Brisbane City Council. During the Brisbane Festival Lightscape event, from 26 August until 12 October 2024, there will be temporary access changes from Alice Street to the City Botanic Gardens.

City Botanic Gardens Edward Street gate access times

During the Lightscape event, the Edward Street gate and Albert Street gate will have varied opening times:

  • the Edward Street gate will be open from 3.30pm to 5am daily
  • the Albert Street gate will be open from 3am and close to the general public at 3.30pm daily.

The change of access will impact pedestrians, bike and scooter riders travelling between the City Botanic Gardens Bunya Walk and the CityLink Cycleway connection along Edward Street.

What to expect during the changed access arrangements

  • access to Alice Street via the Bunya Walk from the Edward Street gate will only occur during the Lightscape event
  • when the Edward Street gate is closed, access to the City Botanic Gardens will be available via the Albert Street gates
  • when the Albert Street gates are closed, access to the City Botanic Gardens will be available via the Edward Street gates
  • signage on site to assist pedestrians, bike and scooter riders
  • access to the City Botanic Gardens River Hub will be maintained via the Bunya Walk within the City Botanic Gardens.
