Independent Design Advisory Panel
The Independent Design Advisory Panel (IDAP) provides Brisbane City Council with advice on best practice outcomes for a range of current development applications, key pieces of infrastructure and policy. The panel provides a link between Council and design and development industries with members from across a range of associated disciplines.
The panel is independent from Council and does not make decisions. Council is responsible for determining the outcomes of development applications and how Council policy is shaped.
Council's role
Council's Design Brisbane will be the direct point of contact with the Independent Design Advisory Panel and will help to manage the day to day processes and operation of the panel. The City Planning and Economic Development Manager will act as Chair of the panel meetings.

Council's Design Strategy for Brisbane lays out our core values for design and sets the bar for designers and developers.
The importance of design review
Design review is a fundamental part of all good design processes - a strong process of critical review at key stages of the development of the design proposal allows for testing of ideas and iterative design improvements, ensuring the best possible outcomes.
About the panel
IDAP provides timely advice on how to improve the quality of design for all types of developments and key infrastructure projects across the city. IDAP will occasionally be consulted on policy development and possible amendments to the planning scheme. Panel members draw on real world experience, current industry best practice and will share their knowledge of alternative development models from other localities.
IDAP also plays a key role in the DesignSMART prelodgement service offered by Council. The panel gives advice with the aim of delivering development which is aligned with the New World City Design Guide - Buildings that Breathe.
