About the Nathan, Salisbury, Moorooka Neighbourhood Plan

Council is finalising its work with residents and businesses to create a new neighbourhood plan for Nathan, Salisbury and Moorooka.

Neighbourhood plans help guide future development and coordinate land use and infrastructure over a 10-year period and beyond.

Once complete, the neighbourhood plan will become part of Brisbane City Plan 2014 (City Plan).

Public consultation

The draft Nathan, Salisbury, Moorooka Neighbourhood Plan was open for public consultation from 13 May to 16 June 2024. Council reviewed the draft neighbourhood plan based on formal submissions received and made changes.

The Queensland Government will now complete its state interest review of the revised neighbourhood plan, which may be subject to further changes.

Once approved, Council will make its final decision about adopting the plan into City Plan.

Why do we need a new neighbourhood plan?

Brisbane is growing. More people are looking for places to live that are convenient to work, services and parks. Businesses are also embracing opportunities for renewal and diversification.

Nathan, Salisbury and Moorooka will continue to grow in popularity as a place to live and work as this area is close to major employment, health, education, sporting and public transport facilities. A new neighbourhood plan will ensure the area continues to look and feel familiar while planning for current and future community needs.

Council has worked with the local community and businesses to:

  • review the development potential of industrial, commercial and residential areas to facilitate employment growth and enhance liveability

  • capitalise on significant infrastructure investment, including education and sporting facilities in the area

  • protect character residential areas in key locations

  • protect and enhance the environmental and biodiversity values of Toohey Forest and the area’s creek corridors

  • enhance streetscapes and walkability between major employment areas, residential areas and public transport infrastructure.

Council prepared and drafted the neighbourhood plan.

In December 2022, the draft plan was submitted to the Queensland Government for review.

We received conditions for the plan from the Queensland Government in November 2023.

Community consultation on the draft neighbourhood plan was open from 13 May to 16 June 2024.

Following a review of submissions, Council wrote to everyone who made a formal submission on the proposed changes and published the consultation report online.

Council prepared a final version of the draft plan for the Queensland Government state interest review and the Minister's consideration to adopt.

Once the Queensland Government approves the plan, Council will adopt and gazette it into City Plan.
