Funeral planning

Brisbane City Council maintains 12 cemeteries and three crematoria in the Brisbane area. 

Hemmant, Mount Gravatt and Pinnaroo Cemeteries and Crematoria offer a range of burial options. The remaining nine cemeteries are historic sites with limited burial options. Historic sites are located at Bald Hills, Balmoral, Brookfield, Cedar Creek, Lutwyche, Moggill, Nundah, South Brisbane and Toowong.  

Our facilities provide venues for burials and cremations and many of our cemeteries offer memorials for ashes. Our memorial chapels with function rooms are available for private services.

Council offers three types of burial sites. You can choose from lawn burials, lawn beam burials and monumental burials, although not all options are available at all of our cemeteries.

Licenced catering and reception facilities are available at Pinnaroo, Hemmant and Mount Gravatt cemeteries.

Maintenance of the cemetery grounds is the responsibility of Council and includes mowing and tree care.

Burial Rights Holders and applicants are expected to comply with terms and conditions relating to the operation of the cemetery.
