Multicultural programs and initiatives

Brisbane City Council supports and engages with a range of culturally diverse communities and organisations to access Council's facilities, grants and programs. Council undertakes community development, capacity building and creates opportunities to respond to the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) people.

The following are some key initiatives and programs.

Translated web content

Use the Google translate drop down box in the footer of the site. This service provides web page translations for 100+ languages, simply select a language in the drop down box and Google translate will translate Council’s website.

Selected documents have been translated into a range of languages which can be found on the page that the document relates to.

Lord Mayor's Multicultural Roundtable

The Lord Mayor's Multicultural Roundtable identifies and facilitates opportunities for business and economic development in Brisbane's culturally diverse communities.

International Relations program

Brisbane is committed to advancing its place in Asia and the world, building mutually beneficial relationships with other cities, and promoting Brisbane as Australia's New World City.

Council's International Relations program makes a significant contribution to the Brisbane Economic Development Plan 2011-2031.

Lord Mayor's Refugee Welcome ceremony

The Lord Mayor's Refugee Welcome Ceremony is an annual event to officially welcome people from refugee backgrounds as new residents of the city. The event promotes Brisbane as an inclusive city which values diversity and the contribution of people from all backgrounds.

The ceremony also provides opportunities for the new arrivals to network, meet with community leaders and access information on a range of programs and services provided by government and non-government agencies.
