Using Council parks for activities and events

Our public open spaces and parks are there to be enjoyed and shared. Find out how you can use a Council park for your activities.

To activate our parks and grow local business, we encourage and support a range of personal or commercial activities in parks. Activities in public spaces improve visitor experience and can benefit the community providing more to see and do across Brisbane.

Council regulates commercial activities to ensure public health and safety, and fair and equitable use of public park spaces. The Public Land and Council Assets Local Law 2014 regulates park use and provides the basis for Council to activate our parks and enable residents to enjoy these beautiful spaces.

You can apply to use a park for activities including birthday parties, team-building events, or weddings. Some parks have designated areas that can be booked for exclusive use and will have booking fees that apply.

You can apply to hold commercial activities in parks that improve visitor experience and benefit the community. This includes personal training and other health, well-being and life skills classes, recreation equipment hire and tours, festivals, markets, mobile food vendors, fun runs and other sport and leisure activities for paying participants.

Events that are expected to attract 1000 or more people may require an event permit. Find out how to apply and the applicable fees.

You can apply for filming consent if you plan to film in a public place for student or commercial purposes, including in Council parks.
