Prepare to be transported worlds away from the concert hall, as dreams and stories unfurl in spellbinding musical moments. Magic shimmers in the fluttering passages of Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, before John Williams’ music from Harry Potter whisks you away into the realm of witches and wizards. Stravinsky’s radiant Firebird Suite will erupt with a kaleidoscope of orchestral colour. At the heart of this concert is Peter Sculthorpe’s Kakadu – a vivid reflection on the changing of seasons, and the powerful cycle of life and death so integral to the land.
