Brisbane residents to prepare for possible severe storms

Brisbane residents should prepare their property ahead of possible severe weather today, Saturday 16 December 2023, as advised by The Bureau of Meteorology. 
 
Residents should secure any loose objects around their homes where possible to reduce the risk of damage to properties. 
 
Residents are also urged to avoid parking underneath trees, and to avoid fallen powerlines and report these immediately to Energex on 13 19 62. 

Motorists are advised to take care in the wet weather and avoid driving in flood water, particularly in low lying areas. Motorists are advised to pay attention to road closure signage and avoid impacted areas, where possible.  

Free sandbags are available for collection from the following locations: 
•         Darra - 38 Shamrock Road, Darra  
•         Morningside - 9 Redfern Street, Morningside  
•         Newmarket - 66 Wilston Road (in carpark off Erneton Street), Newmarket  
•         Zillmere - 33 Jennings Street, Zillmere  
•         Lota - Herbert Street, Lota

For emergency assistance due to fallen trees or branches on your house, contact the SES on 132 500. 
 
Residents can report fallen trees outside their property boundary, or issues with stormwater drains, to Council on 3403 8888. 
 
Residents are strongly encouraged to remain alert to emerging weather patterns by monitoring the Bureau of Meteorology website at http://www.bom.gov.au/qld/forecasts and on local media.
