Updates to Council services due to ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred

Council services and facilities will have changed operations due to the impacts of ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred. 

Cemeteries

  • Closed until further notice. 

City Hall

  • Closed until further notice.
  • All City Hall performances and events have been cancelled or postponed, including tours and Museum of Brisbane exhibitions and events.

Community halls 

  • Closed until further notice. 

Community services 

  • Brisbane Greeter tours cancelled until Monday 10 March.
  • Immunisation clinics cancelled until Tuesday 11 March.
  • All active and healthy classes and activities cancelled until Tuesday 11 March.
  • Visible Ink will be closed until Tuesday 11 March.
  • Outdoor Cinema in the Suburbs, which was to be held on Saturday 8 March in Walter Taylor Ward, has been postponed until further notice.
  • Bands in Parks events, which were to be held at the Wynnum Wading Pool Park on Saturday 8 March and at Lanham Park, Grange and at City Hall on Sunday 9 March, have been cancelled.
  • Riverstage’s event on Saturday 8 March 2025 has been postponed.

Customer Service Centres 

  •  The following 5 Council Customer Service Centres are closed until further notice: 
    • North Regional Business Centre  
    • South Regional Business Centre 
    • Indooroopilly
    • Carindale
    • Brisbane Square.

Golf courses 

  • Closed until further notice.  

Librariesand library services

  • Closed and stopped until further notice.

Parking stations 

  • All off-street parking facilities at King George Square and Wickham Terrace will be closed until further notice. 

Parks and reserves

  • All mountain bike tracks in the Gap Creek network, Mt Coot-tha Reserve, are closed until further notice.

Playgrounds 

  • Council will turn off or isolate all water play sites at playgrounds until further notice.

Pools 

  • All Council pools are closed until further notice.  

Resource recovery centres

Sandbag stations

  • All Council sandbag stations have closed.

Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium 

  • Closed until further notice. 

Transport  

  • All CityCat and KittyCat services will resume from Monday 10 March.  
  • The Story Bridge footpaths will be closed until further notice.  
  • Bus services are now suspended (Sunday 9 March) and are expected to resume full service on Monday 10 March.
  • Council Cabs are not taking any new bookings and are only transporting critical appointments as required. 
  • All Personalised Public Transport services have been suspended until further notice. 

Waste 

  • Kerbside large item collection has been suspended until further notice. Residents should not place items on the kerb. Any items that have been placed on the kerb should be brought back inside the property and secured.     
  • A special red-top bin collection service has been scheduled for Sunday 9 March. It applies to residents whose red-lid general waste bin was cancelled on Thursday 6 or Friday 7 March. Recycling and green waste bins will not be collected during this catch-up service. Regular collection of all bins, including yellow and green bins, will restart on Monday 10 March. Find out more
  • Residents are asked not to contact Council to report a missed bin collection during this time. Council will provide an update when scheduled bin collections recommence.    
  • Bin repair and general maintenance services are suspended until further notice. Residents are asked not to contact Council to log new bin repair and general maintenance requests during this time.
