Brisbane City Council is evolving your network by investing in high-frequency turn-up-and-go Brisbane Metro services, to connect you to the people, places and activities you love.

Each year, our bus network moves more than two-thirds of Brisbane's public transport customers - that's nearly 80 million customers. Due to the size of our bus network, we’re reviewing and modernising the network in stages.

Keeping Brisbane moving

Council invited the community to have their say on the new bus network in late 2022. Your feedback has been incorporated primarily in the inner city and south-eastern bus network and has been approved by Translink.

Feedback received for other parts of the city will inform Council’s future planning of additional metro lines and network reviews.

We’ve also worked closely with the State Government to better fund our bus network and keep Brisbane moving. This investment will improve the frequency and reliability of bus services, while expanding services to new suburbs.

Your new network means:

  • more than 85% of trips will be faster or similar during peak periods
  • providing turn-up-and-go Brisbane Metro services arriving every 5 minutes during peak times and 24 hours on weekends
  • delivering new routes, extending all day services or improving service frequency in our suburbs
  • improving travel times and introducing seamless connections with same platform transfers.

Brisbane's New Bus Network guide and interactive network map

Council has prepared the Brisbane's New Bus Network guide to provide insight on how the network has been finalised following consideration of community feedback and further network planning.

This includes a summary of feedback and Council's response, along with individual maps for updated routes.

What's next

Council will continue to work closely with the State Government on implementation activities for Brisbane’s New Bus Network and metro services. This includes:

  • negotiating with the State Government to reach an agreement on the commencement of Brisbane Metro services and Brisbane’s New Bus Network
  • making your suburban network ready for implementation
  • completing the construction of new and improved infrastructure
  • continuing to test and commission new metros and introduce them to the network
  • improving our onboard metro systems based on customer feedback and further testing
  • working with Translink to get our customers ready to travel on the new network.
