Brisbane's New Bus Network
Brisbane is growing and so is our bus network. Each year, our bus network moves more than two-thirds of Brisbane's public transport customers - that's nearly 80 million customers.
Brisbane City Council is evolving our network by investing in high-frequency turn-up-and-go services, to connect you to the people, places and activities you love.
Your evolving bus network
Brisbane’s New Bus Network will:
- Introduce two new Brisbane Metro lines, unlocking capacity to get more people to where they want to go, at the times they want to travel.
- Reduce bottlenecks and congestion by better utilising our busways and simplifying where services enter and exit the CBD, to deliver greater service reliability.
- Increase connections with other public transport modes, including Cross River Rail, to create more interchange opportunities and travel options.

A series of resources were developed to view Brisbane's New Bus Network and help Brisbane residents understand the changes proposed in late 2022.

Community consultation
To help create the best network possible, Council invited community feedback through a two-phase engagement program.
- Phase 1: Initial city-wide online survey to seek early feedback on current travel preferences and experiences (July-October 2022).
- Phase 2: Community consultation where we invited you to have your say on the proposed network changes (October-December 2022).
Thank you to everyone who joined the conversation and provided valuable feedback. This has been reviewed and summarised to inform the Community Consultation Report, which outlines the consultation process, key feedback themes and online survey results.
Council will keep the community informed about the final network as we get closer to implementing Brisbane’s New Bus Network.

Future network extensions
The new network will unblock bottlenecks and reduce congestion in the CBD and Brisbane’s south-eastern suburbs. This will enable capacity for future growth for the northern and eastern corridors, providing opportunity for more turn-up-and-go, on-time services for the rest of the network.
Future stages of Brisbane Metro could see services extend to other areas of Brisbane including Chermside, Brisbane Airport, Capalaba via Carindale and Springwood. These extensions would be subject to the delivery of busway infrastructure, available funding and government approvals. Council will continue to work with other levels of Government on future stages.
