Council's role in hosting the Games

Council started its Games journey in 2015 when the Council of Mayors (SEQ) agreed to investigate hosting the Games, as a part of long-term infrastructure planning and regional economic development.

Council is playing a major role in delivering the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, from city activations and visitor services through to traffic management, crowd movements, cleaning and waste services and local venue operations.

Collaborating with Games Delivery Partners, Council is working to deliver the Brisbane 2032 Masterplan, an overarching plan for the Olympic and Paralympic Games events that integrates competition venues, training venues, villages and other facilities that comprise the Games footprint.

Council is committed to delivering city-shaping projects like the Brisbane Metro, Bridges for Brisbane and the transformation of Victoria Park / Barrambin, which are already underway and will be important infrastructure, ensuring Brisbane is ready for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The race to gold – Brisbane’s Games Transport Legacy proposal outlines long-lasting benefits to our network through upgrades, expansions and enhancements.
