Bikeway closures and detours
Before riding in Brisbane, check the temporary bikeway and shared path closures and detours that may affect your bike ride.
The closures detailed on this page are long term closures (longer than 2 months) on major bikeways in Brisbane.
As part of the bikeway closure process, Council ensures all organisations closing any part of a bikeway notifies users of the closure and, if applicable, the detour. This applies to both short and long term closures.
For more information on current closures, phone Council on 07 3403 8888.

North
Shand Street shared path
The shared path along Shand Street is currently closed between Sheehy Street and the bridge over the Kedron Brook, following a landslip that occurred during the February 2022 severe weather event.
A detour is in place through Grinstead Park on the other side of Shand Street. For your safety, please follow detour signage.
Initial inspections by our geotechnical experts have revealed that to reopen the footpath, more than simple clean up works are required.
Construction is currently underway to implement an engineered stabilisation solution before the footpath can be reopened.
We appreciate the community’s patience and their continued use of the detour while the footpath remains closed.

Normanby pedestrian bridge
In June 2023, Queensland Rail (QR) and the Cross River Rail Delivery Authority (CRRDA) decommissioned and removed the timber portion of the Normanby pedestrian bridge due to Cross River Rail works.
Find out more
Currently, Council is not aware of plans for a replacement bridge by Transport and Main Roads (TMR), QR or Cross River Rail. Council is seeking to negotiate an integrated permanent solution as the pedestrian bridge provides an important connection for the local community and Victoria Park / Barrambin.
For alternative access between Victoria Park / Barrambin and Spring Hill, please use the Victoria Park land bridge.
If you have been impacted by the removal of this pedestrian bridge and would like to provide feedback, please contact the Cross River Rail project team via their website or call 1800 010 875.
