School holiday fun in Brisbane on a budget

Majestic Park, Coorparoo

School holidays are the perfect time to hang out with the family and explore new hobbies and adventures.

There are plenty of free and low-cost events and activities to entertain and inspire these school holidays. From learning how to skate to making music, there is something for everyone.

Outdoor adventures

School holidays are a great time to learn something new. Dust off your skateboardscooter or bike and learn how to use them with our free workshops run by professional trainers. Alternatively, help your kids stay active during the school holidays with fitness workshops and games available for all ages and abilities as part of our Active and Healthy program. Try out a new sport with free soccerbasketball and tennis classes to build fundamental skills, or take the fun to the water with plenty of kayakingstand-up paddleboarding and fishing classes.

Nature exploration

Does your child enjoy being around animals in nature? Our environment centres have you covered. Meet wildlife neighbours these school holidays with workshops about our unique Australian animals. Your child can even become a bug detective and investigate bugs and their habitats on a short walk at Downfall Creek Bushland Centre. Alternatively, they can discover the joys of connecting with nature through our calming nature journaling activities.

Indoor fun

There is also lots to do and learn indoors these school holidays with daily free events at our libraries. From coding and robotics workshops to cartooning workshops, there is something for everyone. Why not join author Dannika Patterson in a storytime and craft session as she invites children to play with perspective, both literally and figuratively? Alternatively, explore science, technology, reading, art and math with games and activities designed for the whole family at our STEAM workshops

There is also more to do at the Museum of Brisbane, with daily fun activities and exhibits tailored for children throughout the school holidays. For teens, check out our Visible Ink Youth Hub in Fortitude Valley for weekly events including open mic nights and jam and art sessions.
