Educational resources

Watch the Sharing Shorelines video to learn about the importance of Brisbane's coastal habitats for shorebirds.

Nurri Millen Totem Trail

In 1996, nationally renowned Indigenous artist, the late Ron Hurley, worked with six local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to study and research the Indigenous culture of the Boondall Wetlands. Together, they developed and reinforced their cultural identity by creating a series of 18 contemporary totems symbolising various aspects of their culture. The Nurri Millen Totem Trail forms part of Council's public art collection.

Free Native Plants program nursery

Council’s Free Native Plants program offers a range of plants to assist the community to plant out and green their properties. The nursery at Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre is open 9am–4pm Tuesday-Friday and 9am-12pm Saturday and Sunday (closed public holidays). The endemic species provided through this program will help grow our city’s urban forest, connect habitats and support local wildlife.

Visit this centre or Karawatha Forest Discovery Centre or Downfall Creek Bushland Centre  with your paid rates notice from the current financial year, or written authority from the property owner or property manager dated in the current financial year. You will receive two free native plants from the Council display stand. Find out more about the Free Native Plants program.
