Brisbane's River Art Framework
The Brisbane River is a defining feature of our city’s evolving cultural identity, inspiring works of contemporary art and design that breathe new life into our places and spaces in unexpected ways.
Waterfronts once dominated by industry have transformed into lively riverside communities and are now home to our most-loved galleries and cultural destinations.
Brisbane City Council is dedicated to fostering an innovative and creative community, with opportunities for everyone to participate in our diverse and vibrant city.
The new Brisbane’s River Art Framework sets the stage for the ongoing transformation of Brisbane’s riverfront into a world-class cultural destination and canvas for artistic expression.
Brisbane's River Art Framework builds on Council's River's Edge Strategy 2013 and also links to the River Access Network.
About Brisbane's River Art Framework
Highlights of the framework include:
- a blueprint for connected public artworks and cultural experiences
- continued expansion of the permanent public art collection
- improvements to riverside precincts and priority spaces
- a curatorial framework and a set of key principles for future art commissions.
Over the next ten years, Brisbane’s inner-city riverfront will benefit from considerable investment and revitalisation.
This presents a unique opportunity for government, business and the community to work together to deliver an outdoor gallery of public art that inspires, celebrates and enriches our city.
