Lord Mayor's Photographic Awards 2024 terms and conditions

  1. General:
    1. These terms and conditions set out all the information regarding the Brisbane City Council – Lord Mayor’s Photographic Awards 2024 (the Terms and Conditions).
    2. The Lord Mayor's Photographic Awards (the Awards) is promoted by Brisbane City Council ABN 72 002 765 795 acting through its Connected Communities branch, Lifestyle and Community Services whose principal offices are at Brisbane Square, 266 George Street, Brisbane (Council).
    3. Entry to the 2024 Awards is deemed acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.
    4. Information on how to enter the 2024 Awards forms part of these Terms and Conditions.
  2. Award Categories:
    1. There are six categories as part of the Awards:
      • the Open category;
      • the Student category;
      • the Social Media category
      • the Green Heart category
      • the LaVonne Bobongie award; and
      • the People's Choice award.
    2. With the exception of the People's Choice award, entrants must submit the appropriate entry form for the category they are entering.
    3. A shortlist of finalists from all categories listed above in clause 2.1 as chosen by the Lord Mayor, will be entered into the running to win the People's Choice Award, as specified in condition 8.3 of these Terms and Conditions.
  3. Prizes: 
    There are eight (8) prizes available to be won (each a Prize):
    1. Open category winner will receive a cash prize of $5,000 (five thousand dollars);
    2. Open category second place will receive a cash prize of $2,000 (two thousand dollars);
    3. Open category third place will receive a cash prize of $1,000 (one thousand dollars);
    4. Student category winner will receive a cash prize of $1,500 (one thousand and five hundred dollars);
    5. Social Media category winner will receive a cash prize of $1,500 (one thousand and five hundred dollars); 
    6. Green Heart category winner will receive a cash prize of $1,500 prize money (one thousand and five hundred dollars);
    7. LaVonne Bobongie award winner will receive a cash prize of $1,500 (one thousand and five hundred dollars); and the 
    8. People's Choice award winner will receive a cash prize of $1,500 (one thousand and five hundred dollars).
  4. How to enter:
    1. To enter a category for the 2024 Awards, entrants must fully and correctly complete an official entry form for the category they are entering and follow detailed instructions on how to enter the relevant category for the 2024 Awards.
    2. Entrants may submit an image (photograph) for entry in more than one category if the entry meets the eligibility requirements for each category.
  5. Award entry period: 
    1. Entries in each category of the 2024 Awards, excluding the People's Choice Award, will open at 10am AEST on Wednesday 1 May 2024, and close at 4pm AEST on Friday 7 June 2024 (the Entry Period).
    2. No entries will be accepted outside of the Entry Period.
  6. Eligibility:
    1. To be eligible to enter any category in the 2024 Awards, entrants must live, work or study in the Brisbane Local Government Area (Brisbane LGA) at the time of entry, judging, and the 2024 Awards ceremony in 2024, and be able to provide proof if requested.
    2. Council employees (not including volunteers), the Lord Mayor, members of the judging panel, and the immediate family members of the Lord Mayor and members of the judging panel are ineligible to enter in any award category.
    3. For an image to be eligible for judging in any category of the 2024 Awards, it must be:
    4. Additional eligibilityrequirements for the Student Category: Entrants in the Student category must be currently studying at a registered educational institution within the Brisbane LGA. If requested, entrants must provide proof of their current student status.
    5. Additional eligibilityrequirement for the Social Media Category: Entries in the Social Media category must be submitted via the Instagram account of the entrant using the hashtag #LMPA2024, in addition to submitting the official online entry form. The Instagram account used to enter the Social Media Award category entry must be set to public.
    6. Additional eligibility requirements for the LaVonne Bobongie Award: Entrants for the LaVonne Bobongie award must identify as being of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent. 
    7. Council in its sole discretion reserves the right to deem any entry in the 2024 Awards as ineligible. Reasons Council may deem an entry ineligible include that an image or social media account contains swearing, nudity, racist, sexist or political comment, political satire, political criticism, smoking, alcohol, unsafe behaviour, destruction and/or vandalism of public property, or material that may otherwise be potentially detrimental to Council or contrary to law.
  7. Judging and voting:
    1. A panel of judges (the Judging Panel), appointed by Council, will review all eligible entries and provide a recommended shortlist for the Prize winners in each category for the Lord Mayor's consideration.
    2. The Lord Mayor will review the recommendations provided by the Judging Panel, and will decide the Prize winners in each category.
    3. The Judging Panel will provide a recommended shortlist of finalists for the People’s Choice Award to the Lord Mayor for consideration. The Lord Mayor will review the recommendations of the Judging Panel and decide on the finalists to be available for public voting in the People’s Choice Award.
    4. People's Choice Award voting: Finalists for the People’s Choice Award category will be posted on Council’s website for public voting from 10am AEST on Monday 22 July 2024 to 4pm AEST on Friday 16 August 2024 (the Voting Period). The image with the most votes received at the end of the Voting Period will win the People's Choice Award. In the event of a tie in votes, the Lord Mayor will make the final decision.
    5. All decisions made by the Judging Panel or the Lord Mayor are final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
  8. Finalist and winner notification:
    1. The Lord Mayor or representative will publicly announce, in a manner at the Lord Mayor's sole discretion, the Prize winners of each category (excluding the People's Choice Award) by 5pm AEST on 22 July 2024. 
    2. Prize winners for each category (excluding the People's Choice Award) will be notified by phone or email by 5pm AEST on 22 July 2024.
    3. Finalists from each category in clause 2.1 may be entered into the judging for the People's Choice Award at the discretion of the Lord Mayor and will be notified of their inclusion for the People's Choice Award by phone or email by 5pm AEST on 22 July 2024.
    4. The Prize winner of the People's Choice Award will be announced at the Lord Mayor's Photographic Awards Ceremony (Awards Ceremony) on Thursday 22 August 2024.
    5. Council reserves the right to cancel the Lord Mayor's Photographic Awards Ceremony at its sole discretion.
    6. If the Lord Mayor's Photographic Awards Ceremony is cancelled, the Prize winner of the People's Choice Award will be notified by phone.
  9. Prize Claim:
    1. Council will provide each Prize winner with a form to be completed to claim their Prize via the email details provided by the Prize winner.
    2. The bank account nominated on the form must belong to the Prize winner subject to clause 9.3.
    3. If a Prize winner is under eighteen (18) years of age, the parent or guardian  of the Prize winner's bank account details must be nominated to claim the Prize on behalf of the minor.
    4. Upon return of the completed form to Council by email, payment of the Prize will be made to the bank account nominated on the form.
    5. If the prize winner does not return the form to Council within 90 days of receiving the form, they forfeit their Prize.
  10. Copyright and privacy:
    1. By entering the 2024 Awards, the entrant, as the owner of the image, grants to Council the right to:
      • maintain a copy of the image for archival purposes;
      • publish the image on Council's publications, website and social media platforms (including Instagram); and
      • allow the image to be reproduced and/or exhibited by Council and its subsidiaries and related companies for any purpose. 
    2. Entry into the Social Media category is deemed consent to Instagram's terms of use. Instagram's terms of use can be found online at https://help.instagram.com/478745558852511.
    3. Council will acknowledge and give attribution to the image owner in all reproductions of the image as the creator and owner of the image.
    4. Whilst Council will take care to ensure the quality and integrity of the reproduced image, the entrant acknowledges that adapting the original image for presentation may result in enlargements and slight variations to the image.
    5. By entering the 2024 Awards, each entrant acknowledges that their personal information will be collected and stored by Council for the purpose of conducting the 2024 Awards. The personal information provided in their entry will be protected in accordance with Council’s obligations under the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld) and in accordance with Council's Privacy Policy.
    6. Voting in the People's Choice Award is powered by Woobox LLC (Woobox) which is a company based in the United States of America. Woobox does not sponsor, administer or endorse the Awards. Information provided by voters for the People's Choice Award will be stored within Woobox's server in the United States of America. By voting in the People's Choice Award, voters acknowledge and agree to the terms and conditions of Woobox, the transfer of their personal information outside of Australia, and storage of personal information by Woobox.   11. Force Majeure:
    1. If for any reason the 2024 Awards are not capable of running as planned (including due to infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other causes beyond the control of Council), which corrupts or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the 2024 Awards, Council reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to take any action that may be available, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the 2024 Awards. Council reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify all entries from any individual who tampers with, or benefits from tampering with, the entry process which as a result corrupts or affects the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the 2024 Awards.​
    2. In the case of the intervention of any outside agent or event which naturally changes the result or prevents or hinders its determination, including but not limited to vandalism, power failures, tempests, natural disasters, acts of God, civil unrest, strikes; Council may in its absolute discretion cancel the 2024 Awards and recommence it from the start on the same terms and conditions.
  12. Award updates or cancellation:
    1. Council reserves the right to modify these terms and conditions at any time and to cancel or amend the 2024 Awards and/or the voting process at any time without notice or further recourse to the entrants or to voters.
