Traffic restrictions
To ensure pedestrian safety, traffic restrictions apply to all malls. You must obtain a permit of vehicle access for cars, trucks and other types of vehicles. Bicycles and skateboards are not permitted to be ridden in mall areas at any time.
Fixed, removable and retractable bollards are installed at the entries to the Queen Street Mall.
Fixed and retractable bollards are installed in the Brunswick Street Mall and removeable bollards are installed in the Chinatown Mall.
Vehicle entry to the Queen Street Mall is via retractable bollards at the Edward Street and George Street entries.
Vehicle entry to the Brunswick Street Mall is via retractable bollards and via removable bollards in Chinatown Mall, at the Ann and Wickham Street entries.
There is no vehicle entry after 7am to Queen Street Mall (Monday to Friday) and 7am (Saturday and Sunday).
There is no vehicle entry after 9:30am to Brunswick Street Mall (Monday to Sunday).
There is no vehicle entry after 9:30am to Chinatown Mall (Tuesday to Friday). There is no vehicle access to Chinatown Mall from 9:30am Fridays to 11:59pm Mondays.
Retractable bollards will be raised and secured at 7am in the Queen Street Mall.
Retractable bollards will be raised and secured at 9:30am in the Brunswick Street Mall.
Removable bollards will be secured at 9:30am in the Chinatown Mall.
Vehicles that remain on the malls after the bollards are raised or secured may receive an infringement notice and be removed from the mall by Brisbane City Council.
The following notification of Malls Traffic Restrictions is made under Chapter 3, Part 2, Section 20 of the Public Land and Council Assets Local Law 2014.
Queen Street Mall traffic restrictions
Vehicles are not permitted on any part of the Queen Street Mall (the Mall) (as depicted on the map below) at any time, except:
- where the vehicle is a motor vehicle entering Burnett Lane (via Albert Street) from Adelaide Street; or
- where the vehicle holds a current mall traffic permit and is present on the mall in compliance with all conditions of that permit; or
- where the vehicle is a motor vehicle exiting or entering private laneways or loading bays accessible only from Albert Street; or
- where the vehicle is a bicycle or wheeled recreational device being pushed or carried through the mall in a manner which does not cause any annoyance, hindrance or obstruction to pedestrians using the mall.
'Vehicle' includes any type of transport that moves on wheels. This definition includes bicycles, personal mobility devices and wheeled recreational devices such as roller skates, roller blades, skateboards and scooters. Strollers, prams, wheelchairs and motorised mobility devices used for their normal purposes are excluded from this definition.

Brunswick Street and Chinatown malls traffic restrictions
Vehicles are not permitted on the Brunswick Street Mall or Chinatown Mall (as depicted on the map below) at any time, except:
- where the vehicle is a motor vehicle:
- exiting or entering the car park adjoining Chinatown Mall during its hours of operation; or
- exiting or entering an allocated parking bay on Chinatown Mall; via the entry or exit lanes depicted on the map below.
- where the vehicle holds a current mall traffic permit and is present on the mall in compliance with all conditions of that permit; or
- where the vehicle is parked in an allocated parking bay on Chinatown Mall in accordance with the regulated parking signs.
- where the vehicle is a bicycle or wheeled recreational device being pushed or carried through the mall in a manner which does not cause any annoyance, hindrance or obstruction to pedestrians using the mall.
Vehicles on the Chinatown Mall in accordance with either (a), (b), (c) or (d) above shall not:
- stop in the entry or exit lanes to the car park; or
- drive in contravention of the traffic control signs applying to the lanes.
