Assistance animals on CityCats and ferries
Approved assistance animals can travel with you for free on all our ferries, providing that:
- your dog is accredited in accordance with the Guide Hearing and Assistance Dog Act (2009)
- your animal is identified with a Translink Assistance Animal Pass or an interstate assistance animal accreditation.
For information on how to apply for a Translink Assistance Animal Pass, visit Translink or phone 13 12 30.
Pet dogs on CityCats and ferries
Brisbane River commuters can travel with their pet dog on CityCats and ferries during off-peak times (8.30am–3.30pm and 7pm–6am Monday to Friday and all day on weekends).
Due to capacity, or operational reasons, ferry staff may ask you to wait for the next service.
To ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers, please keep the following in mind when travelling with your four-legged friend:
- ensure your dog is on a lead and wearing a muzzle or in an enclosed carrier
- remain outside the ferry cabin (and on the lower level) and maintain control of your pet at all times
- carry waste bags and clean up and take with you any mess your dog makes while on board
- only travel with a maximum of two dogs at a time.
The welfare of your pet dog remains the responsibility of the handler at all times. A dog's behaviour may change in unfamiliar environments. If you have any concerns, please discuss them with ferry crew before boarding. If your dog becomes stressed or unwell while on board, notify the crew and plan to disembark at the next stop.
For more information about responsible travel with your pet dog, including acceptable types of muzzles and carriers, visit Translink or phone 13 12 30.
