Kitchen and art workshops

The Kitchen in the Garden is our premier outdoor teaching facility and is used for a range of workshops, lessons and activities. Foremost among these are the gardening and cooking workshops held throughout the year. Learn how to garden sustainably, create a wicking garden or solar cooker, experiment with food fermentation or cook a simple, nutritious meal from seasonal produce.

Our art workshops take inspiration from the amazing natural surroundings of the Botanic Gardens. Learn how to photograph flowers or our local wildlife. Enjoy watercolours with the water lilies or acrylics with our rare plant species – we have an appropriate botanical subject for every art medium. Discover how to make ‘living’ paper, grow a succulent photo frame or create a sculpture from organic materials. There’s an art workshop for everyone, no experience required.

View our current workshop program for more information on specific workshops.

School holiday activities

Get the kids out of the house and come have some fun during the school holidays with our School Holiday Activities Program. Activities offered are suitable to a range of ages and vary from drop-in, self-paced sessions to structured, small group workshops.

Whether you want to get up close and personal with some creepy critters, bake cookies in our outdoor kitchen, make a seedling pot to take home or just discover the plants and animals living in our gardens – there’s a different set of activities to do every school holidays.
